If you have taken a look at our ingredients list, you will notice that most of the ingredients have an Oriental phrase following its listing. You might also notice the word “Xiang” as common to many of the components. What are these phrases, and what does Xiang mean?

The phrases are the Chinese term for the various components of Old City Incense. The creator of the formula, Fernando Bernall, is an accomplished herbalist who specializes in Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM, which includes Accupuncture, herbology, and Shiatsu.
As for “Xiang”, it translates to English as “Fragrant”. This was the starting point for the creation of the incense, finding all the herbs that were listed as “Xiang”, mixing them up and seeing how they smelled while burning. The ingredients that are not listed as Xiang are still easy on the nose, and some included to ensure a smooth and continuous burn. All of the herbs can be found in Chinese medicine.
